TVEL will build a plant for the production of batteries for electric vehicles

'Gigafactory' to be built in Kaliningrad region capacity of manufactured devices is about 4 GWh per year. The production will meet the needs of domestic manufacturers of electric vehicles in traction batteries. The investment project is being implemented by TVEL JSC - fuel division of the state corporation "Rosatom" and one of the customers of Glavgosexpertiza for nuclear industry facilities.
Kaliningrad-produced lithium-ion batteries will be used in electric vehicles, electric buses, and special equipment. The plant will also produce stationary energy storage systems for power grids and uninterruptible power supply systems for industrial enterprises. The operator of the project will be LLC «RENERA» – Rosatom's industry integrator for energy storage devices (subsidiary of TVEL JSC).
"It should be noted that the implementation of this project will significantly increase Russian lithium production capacities - ionic accumulators and accumulators. In March 2022, between the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, the state corporation "Rosatom", LLC "Avtotor Holding" and the Government of the Kaliningrad Region signed an agreement on the development of the production of electric vehicles and domestic traction batteries, modules and cells based on modern intelligent technologies in the region. Earlier, in September 2021, an agreement on the implementation of the investment project was signed by a Rosatom enterprise and the Government of the Kaliningrad Region. The plant is scheduled to be put into operation in 2025.
«The expected amount of investment in the creation of the plant will be about 30 billion rubles. For the east of the region, this is the largest project. Not so long ago, the construction of two large enterprises in the Chernyakhovsky industrial park began, but the project of the Renera company is even larger and almost twice as ambitious in terms of announced investments”, – Governor Anton Alikhanov said.
It is expected that more than a thousand jobs will be created at the Rosatom enterprise near the Neman.
