CEO of AO SUEK Stepan Solzhenitsyn left his post. Stepan Solzhenitsyn graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University. He specialized in regulatory and environmental aspects of energy. Since 2004, he has worked in the Russian office of McKinsey, being responsible for the electricity and heat supply business in Russia and the CIS. Managed projects in the field of power generation, development and operation of networks, marketing activities. Stepan has been with SUEK Group since October 2018. From November 2018 to May 2020, he held the position of General Director of SGC, where he was responsible for modernizing the company's energy assets, developing thermal infrastructure and improving the environmental efficiency of plants. In May 2020, he was appointed General Director of JSC SUEK.
On April 11, 2022, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Siberian Coal Energy Company (SUEK JSC) Samir Brikho introduced the company's new CEO, Maxim Dmitrievich Basov. Maxim Basov was born in 1975 and graduated from New York University. His professional path includes senior positions in OAO Kuzbassugol, OAO Severstal-Resurs; and a number of metallurgical companies, from 2003 to 2021, he headed the Rusagro group.
Introducing the new head of SUEK, Mr. Brikho emphasized that Mr. Basov's main task would be to transform SUEK as a coal company. Samir Brikho outlined plans to speed up the processes of separation from the group of a logistics operator (National Transport Company – NTK) and an energy company (Siberian Generation Company – SGK).
“From the very first day, Maxim will have to lead our company through a period of sharp adaptation to fundamentally new conditions due to the most severe geopolitical tension. In recent weeks, financing opportunities, commercial relations, land and sea logistics, work with equipment and service providers have changed, – Samir Brikho said.
Stepan Solzhenitsyn, who previously headed SUEK, will serve as CEO of SGK, while remaining First Deputy CEO of SUEK. Stepan Solzhenitsyn will focus on the separation of the energy business from the group, on the development of a stable system of coal supplies to energy and utilities enterprises, rail transportation and new routes, as well as related coal-energy technologies.
Andrey Melnichenko and Vladimir Rashevsky left SUEK shareholders in March 2022. “At this difficult time for SUEK, the acquisition of a professional of such a class as Maxim Basov – this is undoubtedly a major event. The Board of Directors wishes Mr. Basov success and will support him in everything in the current – without exaggeration critical – situations", - says Samir Brikho.
