Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Yury Borisov discussed with the Co-Chair of the Russian-Iraqi Commission – Fuad Hussein, Deputy Prime Minister for International Affairs, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, cooperation in the field of energy, industry, transport and agriculture.
The talks were held in narrow format , and with the participation of business circles of both countries. “Our countries are bound by ties of strong friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation, – said Yuri Borisov. – The bilateral dialogue retains its traditionally intense character. On April 22 of this year, our talks as co-chairs of the commission took place in Baghdad. They allowed us to set priority goals and objectives for further strengthening our business interaction.

In the pandemic year of 2020, the Russian-Iraqi trade turnover decreased by 52% compared to 2019. For 6 months of 2021, the trade turnover increased by 2.5 times compared to the same period in 2019 – up to $113 million
"The most successful area of cooperation is, of course, energy, – emphasized Yuri Borisov. – A key factor in successful interaction – effective implementation of flagship joint projects, such as “West Qurna – 2”, development of the Eridu field in Block 10, the Badra project; and a number of others. The potential in this area is far from being exhausted.
The participants of the intergovernmental commission saw good prospects in expanding cooperation in transport, energy and agricultural engineering, production of glass and ceramic products, pharmaceuticals and agriculture.
