Gazprom Nedra completed a unique drilling project on the Arctic shelf

Gazprom Nedra LLC successfully completed the first project in Russia for advanced drilling of pilot bores of exploration wells on the Arctic shelf — at the licensed areas of PJSC "Gazprom" in the Kara and Barents Seas.

Within a month, using the Russian research engineering vessel В«BAVENITВ» The company drilled five pilot holes with an average depth of about 560 m. The absence of near-surface gas and other hazards was confirmed in the upper part of the section in the places of planned exploration wells. Further work on drilling and construction of deep wells will be carried out by a floating drilling rig (FDR).

Previously, traditionally, the entire range of work on the continental shelf, including drilling of pilot holes , was carried out only with the help of PBU. Involvement of a specialized vessel for advance drilling — new technology for the domestic oil and gas industry. In addition to solving the problems of ensuring the safety of future drilling operations, it provides a significant economic effect. The cost of attracting a vessel at the first stage is lower than when using a PBU, and the duration of the construction of an exploratory well is reduced by two days. Thus, the period of expensive chartering of the PBU is reduced.

Commenting on the completed work, the General Director of OOO Gazprom Nedra Vsevolod Cherepanov noted that “one of the company's priorities is the development and implementation of new technologies and methodological approaches in offshore exploration. Taking into account the difficult natural and climatic conditions, the short interglacial period, as well as the high cost, this work is especially relevant in the Arctic.
