Since 1979, having moved to Surgut, he worked as an engineer, head of the instrumentation and automation service at the Ortyagun linear production site at Gazprom Transgaz Surgut.
In 1987, Yuri Vazhenin entered the St. Petersburg Institute of International Management. He trained in the Federal Republic of Germany and England.
Since 1988, he was appointed to the position of Deputy Head of the Surgut Linear Production Department of Main Gas Pipelines. Then he served as Deputy General Director of Gazprom Transgaz Surgut LLC. OAO "Gazprom".
