Twice winner of the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation.
Since 1968, he worked in the oil fields of Azerbaijan, Western Siberia.
In 1987—1990. — General Director of PO "Kogalymneftegaz" Glavtyumenneftegaz of the Ministry of Oil and Gas Industry of the USSR.
In 1990—1991. — Deputy, First Deputy Minister of the Oil and Gas Industry of the USSR.
In 1992—1993. — President of the oil concern "Langepasuraikogalymneft".
In 1993—2000. — Chairman of the Board of Directors of OAO «LUKOIL».
