Chinese battery maker CATL following TESLA expands cooperation with Mercedes-Benz

German automobile concern Mercedes-Benz and Chinese lithium-ion battery manufacturer CATL, which supplies batteries for electric Mercedes models, announced an expanded partnership last week.
New agreement between Mercedes-Benz and CATL aims to create "advanced battery technology to support large-scale electrification of the Mercedes-Benz range" and accelerating its "Electric Vehicles First" strategy (Electric First). The agreement covers the entire range of battery technologies, from cells and modules for passenger cars to complete battery systems for Mercedes-Benz vans "in promising innovative technological configurations".
Including CATL modules, the new Mercedes-Benz EQS electric luxury sedan with a range of more than 700 km per charge (calculated based on the WLTP procedure) and twice the charging speed of current models. The Mercedes EQS is expected to be launched on the market in 2021. further RenEn

In 2019, CATL's net income grew by 28.6% to 4.36 billion yuan ($620 million), while its revenue grew by 53.8% to 45.55 billion yuan.
