The cost of owning an electric car in Russia caught up with a gasoline engine

The cost of using an electric car and cars with an internal combustion engine is comparable in Russia in case of high mileage — more than 45,000 km per year. With less mileage, the cost of owning a car with a gasoline engine is still lower, analysts at Vygon Consulting calculated. The time for electric vehicles in Russia has not yet come, car dealers are skeptical.
A mid-range electric car costs about 750,000 rubles more than a gasoline counterpart, according to Vygon Consulting's calculations from the report "Energy Storage in Russia: An Injection of Sustainability". But by saving on fuel with an annual mileage of more than 45,000 km, the cost of owning an electric car in five years can be comparable to the cost of owning a gasoline car.
