Joint statement of PJSC "Gazprom" and "Gazprombank" (JSC) regarding the situation with OJSC "Belgazprombank"

Scandal around OJSC "Belgazprombank" is growing - one of the largest banks in the Republic of Belarus. This is evidenced by the speech of the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko video The State Control Committee of the Republic of Belarus opened criminal cases against former and current employees of Belgazprombank and a number of commercial structures under Art. 235 (legalization of funds obtained by criminal means on an especially large scale) and under Art. 243 (tax evasion on an especially large scale) of the Criminal Code. 16 people were detained, including deputy heads of the bank, as well as representatives of commercial structures. The State Control Committee of the Republic of Belarus stated that it had been carrying out verification activities since 2016, when a group of current and former top managers and employees of Belgazprombank allegedly came to the attention of the financial police. The Committee notes that it sent inquiries to foreign countries and the information made it possible to intensify verification and operational search activities.
The State Control Committee claims that it has received evidence that former and current employees of Belgazprombank are involved in large-scale illegal activities related to the withdrawal of funds abroad and that the detainees allegedly cooperate with the investigation, give confessions.

Joint Statement of Gazprom PJSC and "Gazprombank" (JSC) in relation to the situation with JSC "Belgazprombank"
PJSC "Gazprom" and "Gazprombank" (JSC) as shareholders of OJSC "Belgazprombank" declare that on June 11, 2020, in violation of the legislation of the Republic of Belarus, the Board of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus carried out illegal actions to appoint acting. Chairman of the Board and Acting Deputy Chairman of the Board of OJSC "Belgazprombank". These appointments were accompanied by the detention of authorized members of the board of Belgazprombank by law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Belarus.
These actions were committed in gross violation of the legislation of the Republic of Belarus and the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union (Astana, May 29, 2014) and directly affect the rights and legitimate interests of the Russian shareholders of OJSC "Belgazprombank", as well as the interests of customers and depositors.
Shareholders of OJSC "Belgazprombank" intend to seek protection of their rights and legitimate interests by all available legal means, and also take all possible measures to protect the interests of customers and ensure the financial stability of the bank.

Belgazprombank OJSC ; was established in 1990 and is one of the largest banks in the Republic of Belarus, a backbone bank for enterprises of the non-state sector of the economy of Belarus.
