The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia wants to ban foreigners from designing power plants based on renewable energy sources in Russia

21.10.2019

Design and installation of power plants based on renewable energy sources (RES) should be carried out only by Russian companies that are not controlled by foreign organizations or states. Such proposals were presented at a meeting at the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade on October 8, 2019.
Most solar and wind power plants in Russia are being built by Solar Systems companies. (a subsidiary of the Chinese company Amur Sirius), «Hevel» (a joint venture between Renova and Ream Management), Fortum (owned by the Finnish company Fortum), Novavind (Rosatom) and Enel Russia, owned by the Italian Enel, in cooperation with Siemens Gamesa. For work, they attract foreign and Russian organizations. However, foreign companies prefer to work with their global partners.
The proposals of the Ministry of Industry and Trade may lead to an increase in the cost of building stations. Customers will involve foreign partners as subcontractors. But these innovations fit into the Russian policy of supporting renewable energy sources, the main goal of which — creation of a domestic industry.
