Maxton Engineering will produce polymeric MDI

Maxton Engineering Company together with Romanian partners, began the development of a basic project for the production of crude polymeric methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI). The technological part of the project is being created on the basis of the experience of designing and operating four operating or operating units with a capacity of 35 thousand tons per year, 80 thousand tons per year, 120 thousand tons per year (two reactor blocks of 60 thousand tons per year with a common section extraction and purification) and 150 thousand tons per year. The analysis of this documentation made it possible to eliminate the "bottlenecks" inherent in the listed installations in the project being developed. All technological stages and components were re-simulated, which made it possible to find more efficient solutions, taking into account modern catalysts, reagents and range of available equipment. The basic project is being developed in accordance with Russian norms and rules with geographic and climatic reference to central Russia. Licensing of the process is possible on the basis of the created package.
The project provides for the production of crude polymeric MDI (crude MDI, PMDI), a mixed product, the content of 2,4 and 4,4 isomers in which is at least 55%, triisocyanates – not more than 25%, and polyisocyanates – no more than 20%. It will also be possible to produce low-, medium- and high-functional components and process part of the raw mixture into pure MDI in the form of a mixture of pure isomers 4,4 and 2,4 in a mass ratio of at least 70%:30%.
