SIBUR upgraded the only terephthalic acid production facility in Russia

An event dedicated to the completion of the reconstruction of terephthalic acid (TPA) production was held.

Terephthalic acid is the basic raw material for the synthesis of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). PET is used to produce plastic bottles, synthetic fabrics, packaging materials, and medical products. The volume of consumption in Russia is estimated at 500 thousand tons per year. Modernization of the existing production allowed to increase the capacity up to 350 thousand tons per year. The cost of the project is more than 6 billion rubles.

"Modernization of TFA production – not the largest project for SIBUR, but certainly one of the most complex, since it is not about creating a new production facility, but about a radical upgrade and expansion of existing facilities. The resulting additional volume of raw materials will provide a full load of the new plant for the production of environmentally friendly plasticizer, which we launched this spring in Perm. And the modern solutions that were introduced during the modernization process will make the production of terephthalic acid even more environmentally friendly and energy efficient,” said Chairman of the Board of PJSC SIBUR Holding Dmitry Konov.
