Tatneft plans to launch a maleic anhydride plant in 2021, ahead of SIBUR

"Tatneft" plans to launch the first stage of creating a petrochemical complex (NGCC) in 2021, within which the first maleic anhydride plant in Russia will be built.

It was originally planned to put the complex into operation in 2022—2023. However, in order to get ahead of a similar project by SIBUR, it was decided to postpone the launch date to 2021, said the head of the project office for the development of the Tatneft petrochemical complex. Lilac Sakhapov, speaking at the oil summit in Almetyevsk.
Investments in the first stage of the complex are planned in the amount of 70 billion rubles. It is planned to process 390 thousand tons of its own raw materials and receive 317 thousand tons of finished products at the output. According to Tatneft, EBITDA of the project in the first year of operation will amount to 23.8 billion rubles, net profit is expected to be 16.2 billion rubles. The payback period will be just over 8 years.
The planned production capacity of maleic anhydrate — 50 thousand tons per year and 25 thousand tons per year of maleic anhydride derivatives. This product is not yet manufactured in Russia and the CIS. Maleic anhydrite and its derivatives are used in the production of fiberglass, in the construction industry. The new plant will be opened at the site of the Minnibayevsky GPP.
