Omsk Refinery improves production efficiency and environmental safety

24.11.2017

As part of scheduled maintenance work, the Omsk Oil Refinery has implemented a number of environmental projects under the refinery's modernization program. Service repair of ten process units was completed within the scheduled timeframe, its duration was 47 days. The completed work package will increase the reliability and environmental safety of the equipment, and will also increase the overhaul period at a number of process units from two to four years.

43/103, catalytic cracking gasoline hydrotreaters and diesel fuel hydrotreaters, catalytic reforming unit L-35/11−1000 and others.

In the course of scheduled overhaul at catalytic cracking unit 43/103, wet gas cleaning technology was introduced. The main unit of the — scrubber*, consisting of an irrigation column, filter modules, spray nozzles, droplet separators. The wet scrubbing system also uses the patented LoTOx** process with ozone generators. The new equipment makes it possible to extract and safely dispose of chemicals from waste gases, and reuse the water involved in the cleaning process in a closed cycle. Thanks to the introduction of a new wet gas cleaning system, the chimney was excluded from the production process of the catalytic cracking unit. This — the first stage of the project at unit 43/103, completion of works is scheduled for 2018.

At the catalytic reforming unit L-35/11− new technology for domestic oil refining «chlorosorb» will make it possible to return the chlorine compound to the technological process and increase the reliability of the complex operation. The key link in the high-tech process — hopper-separator, which will act as an adsorber. Implementation of «Chlorosorb» required the modernization of the technological scheme of the unit for continuous regeneration of the catalyst and the replacement of part of the equipment. In addition to the separator bunker, new heaters and gas coolers have been installed at the catalytic reformer.

The environmental projects implemented as part of the planned work are included in the perimeter of the second stage of the Omsk Refinery modernization program, the goal of which is to increase the key performance indicators of oil refining to the level of world industry leaders, as well as to additionally reduce the environmental impact of production by 28%.

Scrubber * - (eng. «scrubber», from English scrub «scrub», «clean») — a device used to purify gaseous media from impurities, the principle of operation of which is based on washing the gas with water. The scrubber, mounted on unit 43/103 of the Omsk Oil Refinery, is a round column 5 meters in diameter and 70 meters high, which includes filter modules, spray nozzles, and droplet separator.

LoTOx** - "wet" process gas cleaning, patented by Belco Technologies Corporation (USA), which provides for the oxidation of nitrogen oxide compounds with ozone to form substances that are easily removed from flue gases during gas-liquid contact in the scrubber. Also, the technological process provides for a crystallization unit, where the washing liquid evaporates to obtain solid crystalline sodium sulfate, which is easily disposed of.
