On April 23-24, 2026, Arkhangelsk will host a landmark event for the marine industry – the VII International Conference "Shipbuilding in the Arctic: Fleet Construction and Repair, Innovations and Competencies". The event, held with the official support of the Government of the Arkhangelsk Region, will bring together industry leaders to address the challenges of technological sovereignty in high latitudes. The official venue and co-organizer of the conference will be the Federal Research Center for the Integrated Study of the Arctic. Academician N.P. Laverov, Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The capital of Pomerania once again confirms its status as a key logistics and industrial hub of the Russian Arctic. For two days, representatives of federal and regional authorities, top management of shipbuilding enterprises, leading scientists and designers will discuss the future of civil and special fleets operating in extreme Arctic conditions.
The conference "Shipbuilding in the Arctic" has already established itself as a sought-after expert platform. In 2025, the event gathered more than 250 delegates from 15 regions of the Russian Federation, and in 2026, the organizers expect to expand the geography of participants and strengthen the practical agenda.
The conference program is divided into two thematic blocks:
• April 23: Business and Strategy. The focus is on the implementation of state policy in the shipbuilding industry, the renovation of the icebreaking and transport fleets, and the design of offshore platforms. One of the most pressing topics will be the discussion of the problem of "dock hunger" and the search for mechanisms for accelerated development of ship repair facilities.
• April 24: The key topic is current ship repair issues, import substitution and technology development. The day will be dedicated to engineering solutions: the use of innovative materials, design features of ships and shipyards. Special emphasis will be placed on the development of competencies and innovations in shipbuilding.
On the eve of the event on April 22, a Russian-Chinese round table on cooperation in the field of Arctic shipping is scheduled.
Sergey Smirnov, Director of the Arkhangelsk Region Shipbuilding and Marine Technology Cluster Association, emphasized the strategic importance of the upcoming event.:
– Today, the industry faces an ambitious task – not only to increase its presence in the Arctic, but also to ensure the full technological independence of our vessels and services. Arkhangelsk has historically been the cradle of Arctic navigation, and it is here, in a close combination of industry, science and government, that the most viable solutions are born. Our conference is not just a discussion club, but a tool for forming specific orders and partnerships," said Sergey Smirnov.
