Commissioning of energy facilities in modern conditions

The Government of the Russian Federation has approved the general scheme for the construction of 38 new power units until 2042, the first of which, innovative power unit No. 1 of Kursk NPP—2, is one step away from full-fledged commissioning.
Pilot-industrial operation has been underway at power unit No. 1 with the VVER-TOI reactor since the end of January 2026. This is a crucial stage at which the reliability of all systems is confirmed. At the end of January, the unit was brought to 40% capacity.
In parallel with the commissioning work on the first unit, the main stage of construction of the third power unit started at the Kursk NPP-2 site. At the end of January, the "first concrete" was poured into the base plate of the reactor building.
According to the program for the development of Russia's electric power systems, the main direction for the development of nuclear power plants is the construction of power units with new VVER-TOI type reactors to replace RBMK-1000 series power units at Kursk NPP (until 2031), and the construction of power units with VVER-1200 type reactors to replace RBMK-1000 series power units at Leningrad NPP (2030)., as well as the construction of the BREST-OD-300 innovative power unit at the site of the pilot demonstration power unit in Seversk.
On February 26, 2026, an expert session "Modernization of electric power facilities. Reverse Engineering. Innovative solutions" (within the framework of the Investenergo-2026 conference). The participants will discuss the practice of implementing modernization and technical re-equipment projects for generation facilities and the grid complex.
The session will be opened by the Head of the Business Development Department of Atomtekhenergo JSC with a report "Commissioning of energy and industrial facilities. Experience and tasks of 2042"
