SIBUR and FEFU launch joint projects ahead of the launch of the Amur Gas Processing Plant

On September 5, 2025, SIBUR and the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) signed a strategic partnership agreement at the Eastern Economic Forum, the SIBUR press service reported. It is aimed at the joint development of science, education and innovation in the petrochemical sector. The document was signed by Pavel Lyakhovich, Executive Director of SIBUR, and FEFU Rector Boris Korobets.

The partnership will allow launching joint research projects and forming educational programs. Students, postgraduates and young scientists will be able to participate in applied research for the real sector of the economy. The SIBUR PolyLab Center will participate in the preparation of training modules and professional development of specialists. The results of the collaboration will be promoted in the professional and scientific community. FEFU will provide access to modern laboratories and research centers, as well as become a platform for training highly qualified personnel in the petrochemical industry.

Special attention is paid to the creation of the Engineering Center "Materials and Technologies for the World Ocean and the Arctic" at the university. Its task is to develop innovative materials that are resistant to extreme conditions, which is important for the development of the Arctic and the Far East. The partners plan to create a polymer valley in the Far East, which will strengthen Russia&s technological leadership and become a driver of export solutions for the Asia-Pacific countries.

The key project around which this cooperation is being built is the launch of the Amur Gas Chemical Complex in 2027. This is a large strategic facility that will produce up to 2.3 million tons of polyethylene and 400 thousand tons of polypropylene per year. New technological solutions and hundreds of qualified specialists are needed for the successful operation of the complex.

Combining the resources of SIBUR and FEFU will create a powerful scientific and educational ecosystem that will ensure the development of the region and the training of personnel meeting the high requirements of the petrochemical industry in the Far East.
