Innovations in the oil industry: composite tanks from Tatneft
25.08.2025
Tatneft is introducing a new technology in production, mastering the manufacture of composite tanks. This innovative approach opens up new opportunities for the oil industry, offering more durable and efficient solutions for storing oil and petroleum products.
Vertical Winding Technology
Tatneft-Presskomposite specialists use vertical winding technology to create vertical tanks made of multicomponent materials. This method allows you to build tanks directly at the site of their future installation, next to the foundation, which simplifies the installation process and reduces construction time. Tatneft&s first experience in manufacturing composite storage of this volume (2 thousand cubic meters, height 12 m, weight about 80 tons) is already being implemented.
Advantages of Composite Materials
The multicomponent materials used in the production of these tanks have increased corrosion and chemical resistance compared to traditional steel. If steel tanks require repair after 15-20 years of operation, then composite tanks can function without repair for more than half a century, eliminating corrosion. This significantly reduces operating costs, as noted by the project manager of Tatneft-Presskomposite LLC, Dinar Salikhov.
The company plans to complete the construction of the first composite tank in two months and intends to produce two more such tanks next year. Moreover, the new method has been recognized as effective and is planned to be used in the extraction of "difficult" oil in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, which highlights the potential of this technology to solve complex problems in the oil industry.
The introduction of composite tanks and vertical winding technology is a significant step in the development of the oil industry. By embracing these innovations, Tatneft demonstrates its commitment to improving efficiency and reducing costs, while reducing its environmental impact. This area has great prospects for the future of the oil industry, especially in the context of the development of hard-to-recover oil reserves.m
