3D modeling of the Yamal oil deposit: achievements of Tyumen scientists

Tyumen researchers have completed the development of a digital 3D model of the geological structure of the BS 9-2 oil reservoir, based on an in-depth analysis of data obtained during 3D seismic exploration. The project focused on the study of the Sugmutskoye field located in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. This is reported by the press service of the Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics SB RAS.
Based on the model obtained, the well drilling scheme in the area was adjusted. A distinctive feature of this work was that such an integrated approach was applied for the first time. The initiative was attended by specialists from the West Siberian branch of the A.A. Trofimuk INGG, Tyumen Industrial University, as well as employees of Ingeoservice and ZAPSIBGTS companies.
Studies have revealed that about 25-30% of the planned wells are located in areas with a high risk of low productivity, including unproductive reservoirs and oil and water zones. During the work, it was decided to cancel 43 of the 195 planned production wells, and a justification was prepared for the abandonment of another 32 wells.
In addition, experts have established a relationship between the effective thickness of the reservoir and the current rate of oil production. Calculations have shown that the minimum acceptable flow rate for the studied horizon is 9 tons per day. Based on the map of the predicted effective reservoir thickness, the authors of the model proposed an investment-attractive way to increase oil inflow through drilling horizontal or directional wells. This method has demonstrated its effectiveness during practical field tests.
Thus, geological modeling helps to increase the accuracy of forecasts and improve production planning, rational use of reserves, as well as reduce risks when drilling low-flow wells and reduce financial costs.
