Kabaktinsky coal mine started operating in Yakutia

The ceremonial opening of the Kabaktinsky coal mine, which was initiated by SUEK, took place in the Neryungrinsky district of Yakutia. Coal reserves at this deposit amount to 127 million tons, and prospective resources range from 1.2 to 1.7 billion tons.

According to the company, this new facility will create hundreds of jobs. The head of the republic, Aisen Nikolaev, noted that the company&s tax deductions would contribute to the development of the economy of the Neryungrinsky district and the whole of Yakutia, raising the standard of living of local residents. He added: "Despite the difficulties that have arisen and unprecedented sanctions, we continue to move forward."

Kabaktinskoye Agency, which implements this project, is part of SUEK, the largest coal producer in Russia. According to Alexander Loginov, Director of Production Operations at SUEK, the preparation for the development of the field took only four months.

As part of the first stage of development, it is planned to increase production to 750 thousand tons of coal per year by 2027.

Yakutia ranks second in the country in terms of coal production. In 2024, the region produced over 49 million tons of coal, of which 26.4 million tons were exported. Kolmar, Yakutugol and other companies are among the main players in the coal industry.
