Iran has put forward an initiative to locate gas turbine production on Russian territory
18.05.2025

As part of the KazanForum-2025, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation Evgeny Grabchak disclosed to journalists information about a potential partnership between Russia and Iran in the development and manufacture of gas turbine equipment.
The representative of the Russian energy department noted that during the forum, participants actively discussed the creation of joint production structures for the production of gas turbines. The final agreements will be based on a thorough economic analysis and the search for mutually beneficial cooperation mechanisms.
The initial stage of cooperation could be the organization of service centers for Russian turbine units in Iran. These centers will take on the functions of repairing blades and casting parts.
Of particular value to the Russian side are Iran's achievements in the development of mobile power generating units with gas turbines in the 25 MW capacity range.
"Development of technological competencies is our priority. The Russian market has a limited capacity, which does not allow us to support multiple manufacturers. At the same time, monopolization of the industry has negative consequences. We are working together with representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade to create a balanced system," Grabchak emphasized.
The negotiations also cover the exchange of technological solutions. Russia is ready to share its developments in the field of high-voltage power lines, hoping to gain access to advanced Iranian technologies for foundry production and the manufacture of high-temperature elements of turbine units.
Experts note that such cooperation can significantly strengthen the energy security of both countries in the context of international sanctions and restrictions on access to Western technologies for gas turbine equipment.
