The US is preparing a new package of sanctions against Gazprom
06.05.2025

The development of this package of restrictive measures was initiated by the US National Security Council. At the moment, the status of the document is unclear – It is not known whether the head of the White House, Donald Trump, will sign it, the agency's informants note.
The fate of the proposed restrictions has not yet been determined. The issue of their adoption is in limbo, although the main promotion of the initiative comes from the National Security Council.
"The President has clearly expressed his desire for a complete and comprehensive cessation of hostilities from the very beginning," said James Hewitt, an official representative of the US National Security Council, commenting on the situation.
Experts note that the new sanctions could seriously hit the export potential of Gazprom, which is the largest supplier of natural gas to Europe. This is especially critical in the context of the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project, around which international debates have been unfolding for several years now. Restrictive measures aimed against the Russian energy sector are also capable of affecting the global energy market as a whole, which is of concern to many of the US's European partners.
