Discussion "The approach of oilfield service companies to import substitution"
04.12.2024
In recent years, the Russian oil and gas industry has faced the need for accelerated import substitution. Despite the existing challenges, statistics show that non-productive time is not increasing, with the exception of directional drilling. This indicates that the industry is coping with the difficulties and continues to operate stably.
Leading companies in the industry are facing a number of difficulties, but the process of localizing technologies in Russia is gaining momentum. Nevertheless, domestic drilling equipment does not yet meet the requirements for reliability and serial production, which creates certain barriers to the complete transition to Russian technologies.
Customers place high demands on the qualifications of engineering personnel, requiring higher education for drilling fluid specialists. Contractors are experiencing a shortage of qualified personnel and are trying to find compromise solutions with customers. An important aspect in the selection of personnel is not only professional skills, but also personal qualities, such as discipline and responsibility.
The medium-term strategy of import substitution involves switching to friendly partners and using their technologies. Experience in using technologies from friendly countries shows their effectiveness, which instills confidence in the success of this initiative. The long-term strategy is aimed at achieving technological sovereignty, but this stage is at the development stage.
To date, there are no global problems with equipment for import substitution. Options for attracting independent service companies are being considered, but there are no ready-made solutions yet. Financial instruments such as factoring are being discussed, but their use remains in the future.
